The Sounders FC hoist their third straight US Open Cup as the defeat the Chicago Fire 2-0 at CenturyLink Field.

What does this mean?

1. It conclusively proves that the Sounders are one of the premiere clubs in MLS.
2. It once again enters them in the Champions League for 2012-2013. Which is huge. This means more international play for the Sounders, more exposure to top level clubs. Essentially widening the gap between the other teams in the MLS even further.
3. Trophies are cool.
4. Portland still sucks!

Congrats to the Sounders!

With one win and one loss Seattle is off to a decent start for the 2010 MLS Season.

I thought the highlights actually showed a different story than the actual game play.  The Philly game seemed to be dominated by the Union, better passing and ball control.  The Sounders definitely put together some good attacks resulting in two goals.  One of which was an amazing header by Montero after a cleared corner kick.

Seattle really should have won their second match against the Red Bulls.  Much better passing, attacks and possession then their first match vs. Philly.  Unfortunately they were unable to find the back of the net.  Hopefully they can carry that style of play through the rest of the season though, I thought they did a really good job of controlling the pace of the match.

Next match is away vs. Real Salt Lake May 10th, then it’s home again to face the Kansas City Wizards on the 17th.  Go Sounders!!!

Best commentary in this clip has to be “Like a Jedi knight, no better than that a Templar.” So apparently Templar knights can kick a Jedi’s butt, that’s a discussion for another post, as for this one, enjoy 2009 highlights and get pumped for the 2010 Seattle Sounders FC.

But it’s missing one thing.  Every time the Houston Keeper set up for a goal kick, the entire crowd would “booooooooo” and then at the point of the kick it would change into a “oooooo YOU SUCK!”    It was a lot of fun.

heh.  This is great little write up that compares the Sounders attendance to that of other soccer clubs around the world and also places them in the context of Major League Baseball.

Granted, the Mariners have played 43 home games to the Sounders 15, and therefore the statistic doesn’t mean much, but still it is a very impressive number and really puts a stamp on the top-tier professional status of the club.
