Man.

He wins the Sounders Super Search and then plays for three weeks on the squad and is cut.  Brutal.

OLIVEIRA CUT: Sounders SuperSearch winner Vini Oliveira did not make the trip and is no longer with the Sounders, less than three weeks after winning a competiiton to attend camp. The 20-year-old from Sammamish High and Bellevue CC had played in two games (one start) for a total of 75 minutes. The Sounders held a three-city competition -- Seattle, Yakima, Spokane -- to find one player to try out for the Sounders. Oliveira won the competition on live television after the Super Bowl

Of course there is no mention of this on the Sounders site.  I ran across it on a fan site.  The only mention I see of it in the press is at the bottom of this article. (which I quoted above)

(BTW read it quick before the PI goes out of business)

A friend passed this video along to me.  Very cool, even if you aren't a football fan.

some are a bit far fetched, or at least took several takes, but it's still sweet.

-An Original Elvis Rant-

Dear History Channel,
There was a time when I could recall all sorts of fascinating historical anecdotes, but it has been so long since I watched anything historic on your channel that I've forgotten them.  A lot could have been learned from your channel on all sorts of fascinating historic subjects.  I think I remember a couple of big wars, or maybe a dude discovering some new continents.  I recall something about a King and his subjects.  Oh, and there was this guy in Mongolia that ruled most of Asia.  Who were those guys that discovered flight?  Did they know that Ford guy?  How did that whole space race thing turn out anyway?  Did it have anything to do with that triangle of lights that were flying at night?  Must be aliens.  That explains why you air UFO Hunters.  I guess that show does document history.  I can't fault you there, though I do question the importance of documenting wackos, especially from as long ago as 1994.
These days, however, whenever I tune into your channel I'm forced to listen to "scientists" who want to investigate a hairy ape in the northwest, or a defective weather balloon in the Nevada desert.  What happened to our glorious history?  Not ONE of these shows; Ax Men, Extreme Trains, Gangland, Ice Road Truckers, Modern Marvels (by definition), Monster Quest (insulting), or UFO Hunters (even more insulting) have anything to do with history.  Please revert to your previous wonderful programming, you know, HISTORY!!!.  Please don't assume I'm a seasoned curmudgeon, I'm young and went to college and work in a technical field.  I like to think of myself as intelligent, however, since I still watch your programming my intelligence may be in question.
Taking the tongue out of my cheek and moving on to a serious note, I'm sure you are aware of the economic crisis our wonderful nation is now facing.  I believe you have a moral imperative to tell the story of our other economic strives.  Obviously you are aware of the saying, "those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it."  Please don't let us repeat it.  You are in a unique position to reach millions of Americans and actually educate them on our past.  A lot of which is currently relevant.  The Great Depression, for example, would be a great topic for discussion.  Especially since our government believes the "New Deal" is the hand book for relieving our current economic spiral downward.  Also, there was the recession in the late 70's and early 80's including what it took to recover, and we can learn from these lessons.
I do love history, and your channel will always be fond to me.  I truly hope you can rekindle the strong admiration I had for your channel.  Until then, keep hunting those aliens, chopping down trees, stalking Big Foot, riding shotgun with truckers and, of course, "Modern Marvels" (why is a program titled "Modern" on the "History" Channel).
-Elvis

p.s. I've highlighted the words you should pay close attention to.

Ever wonder what Star Trek's The Wrath of Khan would be like if it was performed as an opera?...  And in Italian?...  Me too.  Thank God for Robot Chicken...
